Great news! Iraq’s popular cuisine is back with a new menu that highlights this rich heritage. Vegetarians will enjoy lots of dishes in this three-course dinner, too! theCOMMONS has partnered with Na Projects Group and Click-Aroi project under Asylum Access Thailand to raise awareness for the global refugee crisis. This monthly dinner is a chance to learn about different cultures and empower refugees through homemade meals prepared by your Iraqi refugee hosts. After costs, your donations enable them to afford housing, food, and daily necessities.

On the Menu:

Starters:
- Falafel (Vegetarian) We’ll start with crispy chickpea patties flavored with herbs & spices.
- Fattoush (Vegetarian) Tuck into Middle Eastern salad made with crunchy bread & zesty sumac.
- Hummus (Vegetarian) Your hosts will share their recipe for their creamy chickpea dip.
- Moutabal (Vegetarian) Enjoy a beautiful roast eggplant and tahini dip.
Mains:
- Chicken Breast with Vegetables: This classic dish gets a delicious Middle Eastern spin.
- Dolma (Vegetarian) Tuck into grape leaves stuffed with herbs, Egyptian rice, & veggies.
- Iraqi Biryani (Vegetarian) Save room for aromatic rice spiced with cloves, nutmeg, & cinnamon.
Dessert:
- Coconut Basbousa (Vegetarian) Your meal ends with a fluffy coconut and semolina cake.

About Your Hosts:

Sabreen was forcibly displaced due to the region’s instability. In 2013, when the militant organization Islamic State (ISIS) attacked her city, she fled to Bangkok. Diana was persecuted in Baghdad due to her religious beliefs. The violence and intimidation from the Mahdi Army prompted her family to seek refuge in Thailand. Thanks to culinary training, they are reclaiming their independence and identity.
