Conversation with the Sun (VR) combines VR technology, performance, and animation as a medium to explore the interaction between various elements and ideas such as memory, light, and the cycles of existence, aiming to evoke emotional and intellectual reflections. This performance, produced by Arts Commons Tokyo in collaboration with Aichi Triennale 2022, The Japan Foundation, and Theater der Welt 2023, premiered at the Aichi Triennale in Nagoya, Japan, in 2022.Conversation with the Sun (VR) is an exploration of the nature of remembrance, examining the observation of people and places, sleeping, shadows, and dreams. It creates a space where the audience becomes both an observer and a participant. Visitors (with a limit of 20 people per session) will have the opportunity to explore the space and the boundaries of the moving images themselves, accompanied by sound and music composed by Ryuichi Sakamoto. About the ArtistsApichatpong WeerasethakulApichatpong Weerasethakul is a filmmaker and artist. He began his first feature-length documentary-style film Blissfully Yours in 2002, after which he directed several internationally acclaimed films, such as Tropical Malady (Jury Prize, Cannes Film Festival, France, 2004), Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (Palme d&#39;Or, Cannes Film Festival, France, 2010), and Memoria (Jury Prize, Cannes Film Festival, France, 2021). In addition to film, he has presented his interests through installations, photography, and live performances in theaters. His works are often set in northeastern Thailand and reference folklore, the forest, beliefs in spirits, historical stories, political memories, and personal recollections. His works have been widely recognized by both audiences and critics worldwide.Ryuichi SakamotoRyuichi Sakamoto was a Tokyo-based composer, producer, and artist with a diverse range of work, including pioneering electronic music under the legendary techno band Yellow Magic Orchestra. He also produced pop music albums, composed classical music, including operas, and created film/television scores for many internationally renowned directors. His film scores won prestigious awards from various institutions. Sakamoto made significant contributions to the arts through both his solo works and collaborations with other artists, as well as exhibitions in galleries and museums around the world. Sakamoto passed away in March 2023 at the age of 71.Katsuya TaniguchiKatsuya Taniguchi graduated from the Department of Plastic Arts and Media Design, Faculty of Art and Design, University of Tsukuba. He continued his studies at the Yoichiro Kawaguchi Laboratory, researching video art and computer graphics. After graduation, he joined Sega, where he participated in research and development of real-time game and computer graphics production. Taniguchi later contributed to the launch of Rhino Studio and the creation of the game Africa for the PlayStation 3. Additionally, he has been involved in VR/AR technology research and development since around 2015. He currently serves as CTO/Art Director at Rhino Studio.
