Thailand&rsquo;s general election on May 14 was in many respects decisive, but the process of forming a coalition, electing a prime minister and rolling out a cabinet and has been exceptionally protracted -- much to the dismay of many in the business community. Stocks rebounded immediately with the parliamentary election of Srettha Thavisin as prime minister after the party with the most seats, Move Forward, was shunted off into the opposition. It has been a test of stamina for the press corps, which has tracked every political twist and turn to try and keep bemused audiences informed. How do journalists cover such Byzantine backroom dealings, and what are the pitfalls in trying to make sense of the opaque? Who really calls the political shots, and what are the constraints on reporting?
