Martial arts have been around in some form since the dawn of humanity. One of the oldest-known sports in the world is wrestling, which is a martial art. Martial arts are a part of the human experience. In this workshop, we focus on the mental, physical and even spiritual benefits that martial arts can bring to those who practice them. Martial arts offer mental health benefits that come from increased confidence and a sense of security, from the humility in knowing your limits and skills and the outlet of tension. Martial arts are one of the few activities that require all aspects of physicality to be the best at your craft. Balance, reflexes, strength, flexibility and endurance. Martial arts offer unique philosophical and spiritual dimensions not commonly found in physical activities, apart from yoga. In the workshop, we explore these aspects in a practical, straightforward manner, and conclude with some hands-on activity. The evening will be conducted by Bashir Ahmad, a martial arts expert whose experience ranges from military combat, a professional mixed martial arts career and working as a matchmaker for ONE Championship.
